Lighthouses in the Outer Banks

The dangers posed by the shoals of the Outer Banks to shipping caused the Federal Government to construct a series of Lighthouses along the shore. Fortunately for us, these lighthouses survive today. Most of them are open to visitors (always check first before making the trip)

Tips:

  • Wear comfortable shoes. There are a lot of steps
  • Consider bringing binoculars and a video camera as well as your regular camera.
  • For ladies, remember that most of the steps are metal grating that can be seen through
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the top and then enjoy the view.
